Walter DeBarr “Eyes to the Sky” Song Review

Written by Beka Bishop

Walter DeBarr’s new single, “Eyes to the Sky,” is one you do not want to miss. This song is heavily influenced by Country, Blues, and Indie music. I can picture this song being a modern-day Western movie opener or in commercials that need a musky, inspirational feel. This song would also be great for a credit rollout. This song gives me major The Strumbellas, Bon Iver, and Jason Isbell vibes.

It opens with a beautiful crescendo, a technique a lot of artists do not use anymore. DeBarr’s voice is husky and gruff. The female vocalist featured in the chorus is almost ghostly, which pairs nicely with DeBarr’s voice. The guitar solo gives this bluesy, Western-y song a more modern take. The incorporation of woodwinds and strings sets this song apart from many songs I’ve listened to recently.

The melody in this song is very catchy, I’ve caught myself humming the melody multiple times this week!

You could hear the pain in DeBarr’s voice and although it is not completely clear where this pain comes from, it is still relatable. The lyrics are rhythmically catchy and encouraging. The theme is “keep your eyes to the sky and don’t stop for anything.” Which is a great message for almost anyone trying to reach a goal or get over a hardship!

Overall this song truly sparked my interest and I am looking forward to listening to more from Walter DeBarr! Eyes to the Sky is not released yet, you can get a feel of Walter Debarr's sound down below!
