Colleen Orender "Siren" Song Review

Written by Beka Bishop Nashville’s Colleen Orender just released her single “Siren.” Her style will attract fans of Adele, Haley Reinhart, Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey, Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, or even the soundtracks from the James Bond movies. Listen to this song in the early morning, in sad moments, or even on the beach. I can see this song being featured in many genres of movies, so be on the lookout! This song’s a catch and will be sure to help portray the “emoceans” for any sorrowful scene.

All puns aside, “Siren” is a much different approach than her other released music. Songs like “The Company of Older Men” and “Don’t Give a D*** About Love” are sultry and sassy while “Siren” takes a more haunting and sorrowful approach. It even tells more of a story than past released songs. This tactic is brilliant and I cannot wait to hear more songs like this one!

Maybe it’s because I live so close to the ocean, but the piano and bass lines made me feel like I was sitting in the middle of the ocean. Colleen’s voice breaks through the storm with lyrics “I’m in love with a sailor, He’s in love with the sea”. Her voice is classic and smooth while telling the heartbreaking story about longing to be what someone wants. This piece is a vulnerable illustration where Colleen’s situational tenderness and her timeless vocals meet. It incorporates the harp, guitar, piano/synth, light percussion, and bass.

Just remember, if you ever decide to fall in love with a sailor, “he only loves the sea.”
