AP The Prod is an up and coming Hip-Hop artist we had the pleasure to interview for this week's Who Dat Wednesday! You can watch the full interview on our YouTube page which will be linked at the bottom of this post.
AP the Prod is a conscious rapper from Detroit. He has been inspired by music ever since he was young. AP recorded his first rap when he was about 9 years old on a Windows 97 computer on screen recorder. Growing up listening to the stories Naz and Eminem told in their music and his daughter are AP's inspirations that drive him to fulfill his conscious rap career.
We got to speak with him on his new album "Dreams of Reality". AP's new album was based on the fact that his dreams are now becoming a reality. This album was to show his daughter that when she gets older, her dreams can become a reality too. In this interview, AP talks about the meaning of the song "Street Stories" in this album. The song follows the story of a young man losing his father, falling into the cycle of selling drugs to survive, and figuring out how to live without his father.
AP: "Big reason why I do a lo of things is to show my daughter she can do do what she wants to do what she wants to do when she gets older. So making your dreams a reality. That was kind of the entire basis behind it."
AP is part of the production company Ghetto Camp Entertainment. We got to talk about who is in it, what they do and how that name came about and the meaning behind it.
AP: "A lot of people look at ghetto as a negative thing. So we took that in and expanded on all these different hoods who have this negative image and made it a positive thing. So it's about being one camp, one team, all of us coming together and making us a positive thing."
AP talked to us about one of his charity events coming up. AP The Prod will be part of a Christmas charity toy drive for children in need. In order to get into the concert, people will have to donate toys instead of your topical ticket. There will be games setup and giveaways at this event for kids. After the games, there will be a concert at this event where AP will be performing. These toys will be donated to the children's hospital and many shelters. This toy drive is annual and this year it will be on December 5th at The Geek Easy. Mark your calendars!
AP: "These are people that are not gonna have the same Christmases we are."
