Popular music is meant to meet the needs of large numbers of people with many different levels of musical education. Things are more varied once more genres are being introduced. Therefore, to provide a new soundtrack to your playlists and to keep on track with the Latin Music week, here is the second part of our Top 20 Latin songs playlist!
10. Te Boté - Bad Bunny, Ozuna, Nicky Jam, Nio Garcia, Darell & Casper Mágico
Defying music industry and radio conventions, this one seven-minute single rapped entirely in Spanish became one of the Reggaeton’s greatest hits. Bad Bunny and Ozuna lead this urban single rapping about how they moved on from their toxic relationships. Both the music and the sentiments are unfriendly, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the biggest all-Spanish Reggaeton hits in over a decade.
9. Propuesta Indecente - Romeo Santos
Coming next in we have the ex-vocalist of famous Bachata band Aventura, Romeo Santos proposing a cup of wine and a night full of adventures with this sensual single. As of June 2020, the video has received over 1.6 billion views on Youtube. This song also received a Lo Nuestro Award for Tropical Song of the Year and it is recognized as one of the most replayed bachata tracks, mixing the classic Bachata sound with Argentine tango.
8. Suavemente
Another classic for latin people, Suavemente by Elvis Crespo is the quintessential merengue song to get people dancing and in a good mood. Released in 1998, In "Suavemente" received a Lo Nuestro award for "Tropical Song of the Year" and two Billboard Latin Music Awards for "Tropical/Salsa Hot Latin Track of the Year" and "Latin Dance Max-Single of the Year".
7. Macarena
La Macarena is a song that became trending without the need of the internet. It is a classic party song that almost every Hispanic/Latin speaker has listened to at least once in Quinceañeras and weddings. Ever since it was released in 1993 by Flamenco-Latin Pop duo Los Del Río and it became an international hit and caused a dance craze throughout the second half of the 1990s. The song got the group ranked the "#1 Greatest One-Hit Wonder of All Time" by VH1 in 2002.
6. Mi Gente - J Balvin & Willy William
This song, recorded by Colombian singer J Balvin and French singer and producer Willy William, is a remix of Willy's song called "Voodoo Song" and it was released in June 30 of 2017. Later on, a remix with Beyoncé was produced, and upon release it reached number one on the Hot Latin Songs chart, becoming Balvin's fourth number one on the Hot Latin Songs chart. It has been Beyoncé's highest-charting song on the chart after "Irreplaceable" peaked at number four in 2007.
5. El Perdón - Nicky Jam & Enrique Iglesias
Released on July 10 of 2015, "El Perdón" won a Latin Grammy Award, for it hit number-one in over 40 countries around the world, achieving over four million sales and 300 million streams worldwide. It stayed in the charts for 30 weeks and it keeps making girls (and guys) cry over lyrics of a lost love.
4. Danza Kuduro
In 2010, the Reggaeton genre was getting stale and no creativity was arising between artist. That stopped after the self-proclaimed king of Reggaeton dropped this tropical adaptation of Vem Dancar Kuduro, making fans lose their mind with this single staying on the charts for 30 weeks. It also shifted Don Omar's sound to a more tropical-leaning material in a Reggaetón's post-boom era, letting him continue to explore new sounds and maintain his hold over Latin dance floors around the world.
3. Bailando - Enrique Iglesias, Descemer Bueno & Gente de Zona
This 2014 assembly between Spain, Cuba and Miami caused commotions in many places and stayed in the top charts for 41 weeks. The mix between Flamenco and Latin city rhythms was a masterful and unique combination. This introduced the Cuban Reggeton group Gente de Zona to a much wider audience, earning them 2.54 million subscribers. With no surprise, 'Bailando' grew to become the primary Spanish track to surpass one billion views on YouTube.
2. Vivir Mi Vida
When discussing the stars of Salsa, there will always be a mention of one of its best representatives, Marc Anthony. After a decade of tropical music hiatus, Marc Anthony took cues from Latin stars Tito Puentes, Puerto Rican Hector Lavoe and Panamanian Rubén Blades, and decided to put his salsa mastery to exceptional use in 3.0, his 2013 album. "Vivir Mi Vida" won a Latin Grammy Award in 2013 for Record of the Year and holds the record for the second-longest run inside the top-five in theBillboard Latin Songs with 51 weeks on the charts.
1. Despacito - Daddy Yankee & Luis Fonsi
The mix of Pop and Reggaeton, blended in with folk touches just like the introductory Puerto Rican cuatro, an instrument that is the combination of a lute and a guitar. The impossible not to sing 'des-pa-ci-to' chant made this the largest track of 2017 with more than 3 Billion video views and a 56-week reigning position on the charts. Despacito is certainly, one of many greatest hits in Latin music history.
