Shawn Mendes Album Review: Wonder

Shawn Mendes, the 22-year-old pop sensation released his fourth album, Wonder, on December 4th, 2020. It caught the heart of his fans and couples all around as he dedicated the entire album to his girlfriend Camila Cabello. In his Netflix documentary, Shawn Mendes: In Wonder, he says every song that he has ever Witten is about his Camila Cabello.

In this 14-song album, Shawn Mendes expressed his love in an album that gave a bit of a different feel than what his fans are used to. The album was very airy with Beach Boy vibes. The one feature on his non-deluxe album was Justin Bieber on the song "Monster" which has amassed over 150 million streams, 2nd most on the album. The album has a great combination of very intimate songs such as "Can't Imagine" and "Wonder" and then more upbeat songs like "Teach Me How To Love" and "Piece Of You". The standout of the album was his song "Wonder" which is close to reaching over 200 million streams.

Wonder offers Mendes' listeners a glimpse into his emotions, deep thoughts, and insecurities. This album is definitely one that will reach those in new relationships and it couldn't have come at a better time. With the album being released on December 4th, 2020 along with the Holiday Deluxe version that featured his partner Camila Cabello, this album brings everyone together for the holidays.

Mendes' previous albums Illuminate and Shawn Mendes made him the poster boy for teen pop-rock. So any changes are going to come with criticism. To some, Mendes may come off as a hopeless romantic and the album may be a bit vanilla but to others, this was a glimpse into Mendes' love life which wasn't hidden but definitely kept out of the public eye. What do you guys think?
