Music Industry Vs. COVID-19

Written by: Beka Bishop The Coronavirus

The COVID-19, also known as coronavirus, is affecting the lives of many people across the globe. Because the coronavirus spreads so quickly and has a long incubation period of 2- 14 days, many entertainment sources have been majorly affected.

Sports games and tournaments, festivals, world tours, and concerts have either rescheduled or canceled because of the coronavirus. “In a joint statement, executives from Live Nation, AEG, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), William Morris Endeavor (WME), Paradigm, and United Talent Agency (UTA) said they are working together to develop best practices to safeguard artists, fans, and staff in the concert industry." Thankfully, these large companies are thinking of their artists, fans, and staff, but many people and companies are losing money from these changes.

Ways to Support Artists in the Meantime

While artists (both big-name and local) wait the coronavirus out and try not to get sick themselves, they are losing a lot of money. Fans can support their favorite artist in multiple ways. Here are a few ways you support your favorite artist:

  • Purchasing tour merch off of the artist’s website

  • Purchasing their music

  • Showing support for their cancelation decision on social media

  • Showing support on their social media pages by liking, commenting, and sharing their posts

  • Doing exactly what they did before the coronavirus became widespread
