Miley Cyrus's latest album, Plastic Hearts, dropped on November 27. It features artists Dua Lipa, Joan Jett, Billy Idol, and Stevie Nicks. The album was produced mostly by Andrew Watt, winner of the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Award for Producer of the Year, and Louis Bell, 2019 winner of the iHeart Radio Music Award for Producer of the Year. This album is full of substance, soul, and a mature voice from the former Disney star.
The song "Prisoner" features Dua Lipa, winner of Favorite Pop/Rock Song at the 2020 AMAs. After her recent album released, she announced in October of 2019 that she would be collaborating with Miley Cyrus. It gives off some disco-rock vibes reminding me of some of the hits from the 80s.
"Bad Karma" was a collaboration with Joan Jett, singer of "Bad Reputation" released in the early 80s. Multiplatinum Stevie Nicks collaborated with Miley Cyrus on "Midnight Sky" and Billy Idol is the guest vocalist from track "Night Crawling."
While Miley's previous album, Younger Now, was a bit of a twangy and half-hearted country music album, Plastic Hearts offers a kind of old-school rock feel. Her live covers of "Heart of Glass" and "Zombie" are on the digital album and both give off that classic rocker vibe with Miley still making it her own.
Miley's raspy voice is definitely suitable for this change of genre and she seems to enjoy it. She's always had good stage presence, but the live cover of "Zombie" showed a whole new side of this star. She definitely seems comfortable in this rocker style!
