Martin Garrix and Tove Lo pair up for a Deep House banger

Martin Garrix has had lots of time to produce new tunes during last year's lockdown; and as of February, fans can have first look at what the Dutch producer has to offer in 2021 with his newest track, titled "Pressure". Not only did he drop a new single, but this one is a first-time collaboration with the Stockholm-born and Los Angeles-based songstress, and Sweden's darkest pop export according to Rolling Stone, Tove Lo.

After working with Jax Jones in 2019 and with Alok in 2020, Tove was very excited for collaborating for the first time with Garrix. When asked about insights of the production, she stated that lyrically, the song "it's all about destructive passion and lack of self-control. Which feels amazing until it drives you crazy". This single is a club-ready slow burner and a demonstration of Ebba's vocal prowess.

The Track

The highly anticipated collaboration is set in a deep soundscape set at 115 bpm and in a G Minor key. Martin applies subdued synth work and a minimal melodic hook that are just simple enough to get stuck on repeat inside your head. The synth is accompanied by surrounding sub-bass textures that accentuate Tove Lo's dark, intimate tones. The Swedish singer's mean and catchy lyrics are complimented perfectly by the alluring bass-line and wobbly-sounding synthesizers. The track bears some resemblance to one of Tove Lo's previous feature with Diplo titled "Win Win". Our only complaint, the track needs an extended mix, because our ears are craving more than 2 minutes and 24 seconds.

The Music Video

The release is accompanied by a music video shot on film and premiered February 5th on Garrix's Youtube channel. The music video, directed by Philip Hovensjö and Olle Knutson, immerses the viewers into Cyberpunk-inspired universe, where the main character embarks on a violent, revenge-fueled crusade in search for something that had been taken away from her. The colors, lighting, pacing and style of the music video works in perfect harmony with Tove Lo's seductive voice and Martin Garrix's deep house beat.

From bedroom producer to international star, label owner and proprietor of one of the world’s most advanced Dolby Atmos studios, Martin Garrix has had a successful career in the EDM scene. He has even donned alter-egos such as Ytram to showcase his diversity with deeper releases. This time, he is heading into a slightly different direction, with fresh, deeper sounds dominating throughout the track.

This is another clear example of how wide Garrix’s production range is. Every time he tries something different it turns out quality, and "Pressure" has potential for being a fan-favorite this year. The Dutch producer seems likely to share more music as he reportedly possesses a set of releases on the horizon, so be on the lookout if you are interested in listening more from his club tracks!
