iVoted: Increasing Voter Turnout Through Music

Voting has been an activity that many citizens have developed an aversion towards. The reasons behind this vary, ranging from thinking they will not make a difference to simply not caring. So how can people be motivated to participate in elections nowadays? An accomplished music industry executive, Emily White, came with an answer, and it is called iVoted.

iVoted is an initiative founded by entrepreneur Emily White, Mike Luba, and Pat Sansone of Wilco / The Autumn Defense. In 2018, iVoted activated over 150 venues in 37 states to let fans in on November 6th, 2018 (the United States' National Election night), who showed a photo of themselves outside of their polling place. Her inspiration behind this initiate comes from White's desire to encourage people to vote after experiencing the 2016 elections, where voter turnout was much lower than expected.

The United States National Election Day is this upcoming November 3rd, and in the same night, a plethora of artists will be doing performances via webcast nationwide. Here is a short list of some of the 250 artists that will be showcased in this event:

  • 3OH3!

  • Shlump

  • Sofi Blonde

  • Korbee

  • Anna Storm

  • Nina Diaz

  • Yung Frost

  • Ryan Pete

  • The Side Project

  • DJ Marc Money

  • Pons

  • The Ghost Club

  • Alan Z

This festival is set to become a world-record breaker, aiming for the largest single-night concert in history with more than 450 acts. Fans can become part of history and gain access to their shows of choice by RSVP-ing with a selfie at home with their blank unmarked mail-in ballot or with a photo from outside of their polling place. If fans have already voted, they can still send a selfie outside of any early voting location, mailbox, or post office.
