Il Volo is a sensational Italian operatic pop group that is made up of Gianluca Ginoble, Piero Barone, and Ignazio Boschetto. They first got their start in the Italian singing competition Ti Lascio una Cazone, where they were put together by a producer. Gianluca won the competition, but then decided to be part of Il Volo, which means “the flight” in Italian. With their signature song “’O Sole Mio,” Il Volo began to gain international recognition and soon began making their debut album of the same name.

Earning a reputation from being branded “The New Generation of the Three Tenors,” with their wholesome, mature voices and their bel canto technique, they are taking the world by storm especially in Europe, Latin and South America, as well as in the U.S. Ignazio is a Lyric Tenor with a clear and bright timbre, Piero is a Spinto Tenor with a dramatic sound, and Gianluca is a Lyric Baritone with a warm timbre that can sing high and low notes of the Baritone range. In 2015, they competed in the Eurovision Song Contest representing Italy with the song “Grande Amore.”

Operatic pop is a subgenre of pop music with operatic singing over classical/pop music, and it is a style which greats like Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, and Sarah Brightman have made popular. Operatic pop is currently becoming more popular and drawing in multiple audiences of different backgrounds and countries.
