How To Fit In At A Music Expo

Written by Keianna Summers

This past weekend, I was given the chance to join a media team to work for my VERY FIRST World Scout x Rap Plug Music Expo held here in Orlando, FL. I was beyond excited to be able to experience something beyond the standard level of media with my team from 3300+ Climbing. We were given the dates and times to attend, yet, aside from the thrill I couldn’t help but think to myself “What do I wear? What do I bring? Is my hair okay?” So in case, you are getting ready for your first music expo, here are some tips on how to fit right in!

Catch Your Breath!

First off, you are going to want to breathe in and out. Don’t worry! You can take your time on this one. When I heard that 3300 + climbing was going to be given free media passes to work with The Real Rap Plug, I was so thrilled that I almost fainted! The excitement is real, but honey, you want to be sure you are alive and breathing before you get there!

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Some events may have dress codes for their media teams, but you are going to want to wear clothing that you can move around in. Whether you are wearing a T-shirt and jeans, all black, or a fancy suit, be sure that you are limited to movement. Sneakers or boots work the best and are super comfortable when you are walking around all day long!

Bring all of Your Equipment

Be sure to bring tons of SD cards, hard drives, cameras, phone chargers, etc. My team and I worked all day long and we are so grateful that Rap Plug had backup cards for us to use! However, I’d say we did a good job at bringing equipment and the heart to learn!

Be Yourself!

When going to a music expo, especially for the first time ever, don’t forget to be yourself! You are spectacular and dope as hell! When I walked into the World Scout Music Expo, my first thought was “Wow! I am here and I am surrounded by celebrities and award-winning people!” I will be completely honest, I was very nervous! What if I talked too loud or sounded like a know it all? So I had to tell myself that I am able, willing, and available to grow, work, and learn. If you find yourself trying to fit in, remember that you are valued just as much as the person standing next to you. No matter your position, your work and time matters. Be unapologetically YOU!

Big shout out to former 3300+Climbing coordinator, Nequa, for inviting us to this event and helping us make it happen. If it wasn't for her, we would not have been able to take advantage of the amazing World Scout Event. Thank you Nequa!
