After nearly six years, the Jonas Brothers made their way back to Orlando for their sold out Happiness Begins tour on Saturday night. Twenty thousand fans packed the Amway Center from floor to ceiling. I had the pleasure of attending and it was everything I wanted and more. To say they put on a great performance would be an understatement. They gave the fans everything--and I mean everything--they wanted.
I was fortunate enough to be standing in the pit about five feet from the stage. When they came on, the crowd went nuts. The energy was unreal in that arena. I mean, this was my generation's Backstreet Boys reuniting, so it was a pretty big deal. The boys entered on this lift that came down with sparklers from the top of the stage and opened with "Rollercoaster" from their newest album, "Happiness Begins". The rest of the setlist was incredible. They sang everything from their greatest hits like, "Hold On", "S.O.S.", "Burnin' Up" and "Lovebug," as well as just about every song from their newest album. My favorite performance of the night was "That's Just the Way We Roll" from one of their earlier albums because that's always been one of my favorites of theirs. I feel like the crowd went hard during this, but not as hard as when they sang, "Mandy", which is one of their very first songs. Each night of the tour, the boys ask the crowd what song they should sing during a set on the B stage. The crowd chose, "Jersey", which is an unreleased song of theirs, but was featured in their latest documentary, "Chasing Happiness" on Amazon Prime.
The stage itself was a piece of art. It had two staircases leading under the stage, toaster pops, lifts and more. One, large screen stretched from one side of the stage to the other. The floor of the arena was divided into two sides where the Jonas Brothers would run from the main stage to the B stage during set change. And as for special effects, there was everything from fireworks and pyro to drone balloons and those inflatable dancing people that you'd see at a car lot. I was surprised throughout the entire show.
The show closed with and encore of, "Burnin' Up" and "Sucker" and then they departed the stage. I'm still in shock from Saturday night. I can't believe that a band I started to love over a decade ago, reunited for a tour. I've been to over 70 concerts over the years and I've seen everyone from Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, Cher, Luke Bryan and even Beyonce, to name a few. But the Jonas Brothers are definitely in my top three best concerts I've ever been to. Don't worry, if you missed this show, the boys will be back in town at the Amway Center on November 16 for the second leg of the Happiness Begins tour. It's truly a show you won't want to miss.
