HOLLYWOOD, FL (August 25, 2021) - The Professional Fighters League (PFL)top Lightweights and Welterweights athletes competed in Playoff events and participated in press conferences this week at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL.
Several students from Full Sail University had the exclusive opportunity to attend press conferences and experience live events with world-class MMA athletes. Entertainment and Sportscasting students were given access to photograph, document, and experience an exciting time in the League as the drama was set to unfold as several championship spots were up for grabs.
The thrill and passion for the sport was clearly shown and felt throughout the arena energizing the audience as the 2021 Playoffs reached its midway point. Zefferino, McDonald, and Martinez faced win-or-go home scenarios as they fought for championship positions. According to One37PM, "Being the PFL champ comes with a million dollar prize and an invite back for next year," which fueled the desire to win for these amazing fighters.
What is the PFL?
“The PFL 2021 Season features elite MMA athletes across six weight classes, including the first-ever 155-pound women’s division, with each fighter having two fights during the PFL Regular Season in April, May & June.
Fighters earn regular season points based on their performance, with 3 points for a win, plus bonus points for knockouts and submissions. Each fighter is then seeded in standings for their weight class based on their point totals.
Following the Regular Season is a single-elimination PFL Playoffs which leads to the PFL World Championship. The winners of each title bout are crowned PFL World Champion of their respective weight class and earn $1 million. Viewers will be delivered next-gen stats never before seen in MMA through the PFL’s proprietary SmartCage™ platform and Cagenomics™ technology.” (PFLMMA Website)
This was an amazing learning experience for Full Sail students. They had the opportunity to get a hands-on experience of the world of live production, a behind the scenes look at what goes on outside of the ring, and the exciting atmosphere that surrounds the MMA scene.
"The amount I learned personally shooting in those short few days has already been applied to my other ventures. Never thought I would get to see professional MMA fights of that scale and be that close to the action. The energy that was in the air was unreal, and that was before Francis Ngannou even made an appearance!" - Clinton Cunanan, Online Music Business Student.
All of PFL's 2021 Season events are live in primetime on ESPN2/ESPN+ in the U.S., as well as on leading broadcast and streaming platforms in 160 countries worldwide
