Many of us are aware of child prodigies, whether they do incredible things on the piano, write complicated math problems, or create something ingenious. It is incredible what young people can do.
Emma Kok is one of those prodigies. She has an incredible voice with a passion for singing. She came into the public eye when she competed in The Voice Kids Netherlands in 2021.
Her voice won the hearts of the judges and the audience, as she put a lot of emotion into every performance; she eventually won the competition that year. She also competed in and won the SBS6 Ministars. She caught the attention of well-known Dutch violinist and conductor André Rieu.
Her family was known to Rieu, as Emma’s older brother, Enzo, had performed alongside the conductor as a child performing with his violin. Emma performed the song “Voilà” by Eurovision 2021 runner-up Barbara Pravi. By the end of the performance, half the audience were in tears.
There is also something unique about Emma: she suffers from gastric paralysis, which prevents her from eating and requires a tube directly into her stomach for necessary nutrients.
Despite this, she is determined to become a singer.
Aside from singing, she has advocated for important causes, such as mental health awareness, and has become an ambassador for the Children’s Research Fund Limburg. She donated her prize money from the SBS6 Ministars competition to help set up the Gastrostars Foundation, a charity that raises awareness of gastric paralysis.
For someone her age to sing so beautifully is incredible. The way she sings would normally take the average singer years to perfect. Her performance with André Rieu is incredible and worth the watch.
