A few days ago, it was announced that the Stephen Sondheim gothic musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will embark on a national tour across America. The tour is said to embark sometime in late winter/early spring of 2025 and span throughout the 2024/25 and 2025/26 Broadway seasons. Dates and locations will be announced at a later date.
The musical is currently being performed at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway, with Josh Groban as Sweeney Todd and Annaleigh Ashford as Mrs. Lovett. It has been nominated for 8 Tony Nominations, including Best Revival, Best Performance by a Leading Actor, and Best Performance by a Leading Actress.
Sweeney Todd is a tale about a barber with a vengeance set to find the people that destroyed his family and sent him away over a decade ago. He sets on his search alongside a pie maker, who sells pies below his barber shop.
The Tony Award-Winning Director Thomas Kail directed the Broadway company; the music supervisor was Tony Award Winning Music Composer Alex Lacamoire; Tony Award Winning Lighting Designer Natasha Katz; Costume Design Tony Nominee Emilio Sosa; Sound Design by Tony Winner Nevin Steinberg; and Olivier Award winner Steven Hoggett choreographed the show.
