BTS, a boy group from South Korea, have taken the world by storm in recent years, dominating the West like no other K-Pop group before them. Their popularity is comparable to that of Psy's after the initial release of Gangnam Style back in 2012, another International Korean Celebrity, although theirs seems to be much longer lasting.

BTS' music, however, has been the focus of all of the music industry as of late, considering their music is a testament to the oozing talent in the group. It garnered the attention of industry leaders, specialists, and artists. With that notoriety, the group was able to receive their first ever Grammy Nomination, and the first for any K-Pop Group or Act as a whole. Their performance as a group for the song "Dynamite" that came out in earlier 2020 is up for the Grammy for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" this 2021 award season.

Fans reveled over the nomination, considering their snub at last year's Grammy Award's Ceremony where their album cover was nominated for a Grammy, as opposed to the music itself. The group celebrated their achievement and received many congratulations from famous artists and celebs. Even Jimmy Fallon, a long time friend of the group, got in on the congratulations!

The group is up against some stiff competition this year, however. Famous acts from the West; Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and Bon Iver, Justin Bieber and Quavo, and the combined talents of J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny and Tainy are nominated for the same award, proving to provide some challenge for the group when attaining the win. congratulations!

This Grammy nomination means something different for the future of BTS, the K-Pop industry, and even the western music industry. The music industry is broadening its horizons and spreading its arms to different sides of the globe. More inclusivity is exactly what we need in an ever-diversifying country, and BTS is helping pave the way to that.ing down barriers that were once impossible to penetrate.

Although fans hope that BTS will snag the Grammy this year, many believe that it will be a close race between "Dynamite" and "Rain on Me," the collaborative song released by Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga earlier this summer.

"Rain on Me" was a hit this year on the charts and garnered plenty of views on YouTube (254 Million Views), hits on Spotify (459 Million streams) and thousands of uses in TikTok videos. The global attention and performance of the song was more than could've been anticipated and earned the song its nomination, proving it'll be a tough choice for Grammy's team of voters this year.

However, fans continue to hope that the success of "Dynamite" in the western markets and charts this year will surpass that of "Rain on Me" and earn the group that Grammy award. "Dynamite" as much as "Rain on Me" was a hit this year with 2 weeks consecutively at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, over 493 Million plays on Spotify, and 670 Million views on YouTube. Their success with "Dynamite" this year is comparable to that of "Rain on Me," if not more so.

The achievement itself for BTS, however, earning this nomination shows that music can transcend all language barriers and goes deeper than just what you can understand. While BTS are the one's being nominated, this is a win for the K-Pop industry as well. BTS, in recent years, have paved the way for other K-Pop acts in the United States, breaking down barriers that were once impossible to penetrate.

Without BTS' influence in the west, acts like Blackpink, Super M and NCT 127 would've never made a name for themselves in the U.S. BTS have made history through their firsts as a K-Pop group in the west, and as their fame and talent continue to skyrocket, so will their notoriety and the acknowledgements they receive.
