Artist of the Week- The Voynich Code

Written by: Rita de Moura

The Voynich Code, founded in 2013 is a Portuguese band that states they do not have a specific genre. They consider themselves a modern metal band, which can be a very controversial statement in the metal community, one of the communities with the most sub-genres. The vocalist mentioned that music genres are very relative to the listener, and because of that The Voynich Code cannot say they are a specific genre such as Deathcore, Techno Metal and Djent, therefore their genre is a combination of different genres.

The band has four members, Nelson Rebelo, the vocalist; Vinnie Mallet and André Afonso who are the guitar players and the drummer Euler Morais. Curiously they do not have a bass player, which is uncommon for a metal band. During this year the band has been growing exponentially, increasing their fanbase and having the amazing opportunity of touring around the world, performing in festivals and concerts in countries like Japan, the UK, Spain, France, Belgium, Switzerland and many more!

The Voynich has been working very hard to break into the music market and has been thriving, in social media they have a total of around 20K followers between Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube. And gather around 4K monthly plays on Spotify.

The band has a strong team behind them that is crucial for their success, currently New Breed Agency books their shows nationally and internationally. Also, they are managed by Alex Boezeman that works for E.J Shannon Management, a management company based of Chicago, IL. For an up and coming band it is very important to have support in order to make them achieve the next level.

If you would like to follow this Portuguese band blooming internationally make sure to follow them on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and to check their new songs, play through and music videos on their Youtube and Spotify.
