Artist of The Week - Mòn

Written by Rita de Moura

The band Mòn was originated in Rome Italy in 2014. It is composed by five members, Carlotta Deiana, who is the female vocalist; Rocco Zilli, the male vocalist, guitarist and also controls the sound synthesizer; Michele Mariola who is the main guitar player; Stefano Veloci, the Bassist and finally Dimitri Nicastri the drummer.

Originally the band was aiming for an indie-folk vibe but the project quickly evolved and the band started experimenting with different sounds inspired from the music background of each member. Nowadays Mòn has achieved their unique and characteristic sound that explores analogical and rhythmic effects that are perfectly balanced and contrast with the melancholic and low vocals. They developed and original style that connects directly with the individual listening to it by using upbeat and fun to dance to instrumentals and at the same very intimate vocals. Mòn has gotten inspiration from many iconic European bands such as Radiohead, The XX, Foals, Beatles, Acrtic Monkeys and God Is An Astronaut.

Currently the band has a distribution contract with the reccord label Urtovox and all their shows and tours are booked by L'eretico Booking. The band has quickly grown in Italy since the release of their first album Zama in 2017. They have given several tours around the country covering it from top to bottom and even including the island of Sicily, where they usually perform in the city of Palermo. Some notorious places the band has performed at include famous festivals such as; CRACK Fumetti dirompenti, a comics and music festival organized in Rome, where I had the pleasure to watch them performing live for the first time in 2017; Aspettando il Gargano Film Festival, that is hosted in San Giovanni Rotondo; the Retape Festival that takes place in Rome and also the Soundproof festival in the city of Benevento.

I believe that the band is ready to take the next great step and organize start performing outside of Italy by organizing an European tour. Indie-rock is definitely growing exponentially, specially in Portugal, the UK, Spain and France. Since Mòn's lyrics are in English most people are able to understand them and resonate with the band at a deeper level. Their music brings the crowds together and elevates the spirits of any audience, therefore they should try to break it outside of Italy in order to expand their audience and create more traction to their name. Having mentioned this, another great example for them to get their name known is to license their music to European TV shows, commercials and movies, this would be a great opportunity to expand and monetize the emotional connection their fans already have with their music. Mòn would be a great fit for TV or Film due to their indie-rock vibe, that matches perfectly the independent film scene in Europe.
