Sony Corporation Acquires Stake in Epic Games
Gamers of all ages might be familiar with one of the more popular game developers, Epic Games. With prestigious properties such as the Unreal Engine and the smash-hit game Fortnite, Epic Games is up there with heavy hitters of the industry. With accolades like that, it was only a matter of time until it’d catch the eyes of potential backers and investors. With that notion, Sony Corporation stepped up to the plate with an investment offer and an extended hand of friendship.
As of recently, Sony Corporation agreed to a collaboration with Epic Games with a “strategic investment” of $250 million. Sony claims to the industry that the investment was an attempted to strengthen an already close and well-developed relationship between Sony and Epic Games and the hopes of improving and progressing the state-of-the-art in technology, entertainment, and socially connected online services. With this collaboration now firmly cemented, this could bring a fresh wave of opportunities for games and music.
Sony claims that investment is meant to explore opportunities for collaborations with Epic and hopes to create meaningful values for both the consumers and the industry. With the growing industry like the entertainment and media industry, partnerships like these are signs of light of outstanding things that could come to the consumers in due time.
With Sony’s Epic Records being an asset under Sony, it could be a possibility that artists such as Drake, Future, and G Herbo could be making an appearance in Fortnite. Sony’s Epic Records have collaborated with Epic in “virtual concerts” in the past. Their most recent concert showcased their current artists and a jaw-dropping performance by none other than Travis Scott. Fortnite is notorious for hosting special events and collaborating with artists and creators, so investments and partnerships with Sony Corporation could be a sign that more Fortnite concerts are possibly on the way, and new content could surface in the game as skins and cosmetics.
Not only can this investment bring pleasurable things to Fortnite, but Unreal Engine could also get licensed out to other outlets and used in unique forms in media. With 3D and 2D animation constantly strengthening, shifting, and inspiring, it could bring a fresh wave of artists into light because of the software. Things like video games, movies, and music videos could get created with licensed music from Sony being available. It would amaze people to see what works can become incorporated with distinct styles of music.
With this collaboration between Epic Games and Sony, the gaming industry, and the musical influence that comes with Sony and their label Epic Records, music in video games could get taken to new heights with fresh opportunities. These opportunities would all be thanks to partnerships strengthened with this new investment. Imagine what can happen now that two influential forces have solidified their relationships in the entertainment industry. Here’s to a Drake concert. It’d be hilarious for one to be running for their lives from the storm only to get blindsided by a squad with speakers blasting songs by 21 Savage in a golf cart.
