After six years without a new album, AC/DC still possess that great vibe, swagger, and good old rock and roll chants that have made them prominent since their first album in 1975. The band has released "Shot In the Dark", the first single from the band's long-awaited comeback album, "Power Up". This is their first song released since the death of Malcolm Young; but the ensemble for this album comprises of Brian Johnson (vocals), Phil Rudd (drums), Cliff Williams (bass), Angus Young (guitar), and Stevie Young (guitar). This is as close to the classic AC/DC lineup as they can possibly get.

"Power Up" was recorded over a six-week period from August to September 2018 at Warehouse Studios in Vancouver, Canada with producer Brendan O'Brien, who also worked in 2008's"Black Ice"and 2014's"Rock Or Bust". AC/DC's original plan was releasing "Power Up"earlier this year, but the pandemic forced the band to postpone it. After months of delay, "Shot In The Dark" premiered on Youtube on October 7 of this year, and the video already has 4 million views and 250k likes. The new album will be released on November 13 and will be available in multiple formats, including digital, CD, and deluxe versions. The limited-edition deluxe POWER package includes a light-up box with built-in speakers that play a portion of their new single, as well as a 20-page booklet and more.
For those expecting a departure from the original AC/DC sound, you will be disappointed. For those wanting the classic rock and roll "Back in Black" or "Thunderstruck" vibe, you will be pleased. This song sounds like the trademark sound for this band as it does not break the template the band has stuck to since finding their signature sound, and it has received. "Shot In the Dark" feels as if was created specifically for big crowds in huge arenas and for fans chanting the chorus while Angus rips riffs out of his guitar the way he was born to.
These boys are back in town, and they plan on keeping the same energy they have had since the start. This single was a needed and precise shot in these six long years without some new classic AC/DC sounds. It remains to be see whether "Shot In The Dark" will be the lead single for another incredible album or a plainly decent one. Nevertheless, it is a great of a start!
