300 Drive-Ins. One Garth Brooks. One Night Only. The Socially Distant Concert Experiment.

Top-selling Country Music recording artist, Garth Brooks, will be having a socially distant drive-in concert. With the help of Encore Live, the production will be simulcast to 300 drive-in theaters across the United States and Canada. Tickets went on sale on June 19th at noon. Brooks has been promoting via Instagram and even a Good Morning America interview. He continues to express his excitement about the June 27th concert. " This is a reason to get out of the house, but at the same time, you get to follow all the COVID rules from every individual state," Brooks told GMA. "You get to have fun and stay within the guidelines of social distancing." Tickets are $100 per car or truck, and there is no tailgating allowed. Those who plan on attending should also prepare for limited restroom access.

Garth Brooks is not the only person trying this idea out. In Atlanta, the Parking Lot Concert Series has emerged to engage the local hip-hop enthusiasts. Atlanta music acts such as Skooly and Travis Porter have graced the stage. June 20th PLC had Young Dro pipe the crowd up from the security of their cars.

With the optimism of the drive-in concert being a light during these socially distant times, the CDC still says events of 250 people or more, "offer more opportunities for person-to-person contact and therefore pose a greater risk of COVID-19 transmission." Assuming you can be confined to your vehicle and limited to interacting with others, the risk level is greatly reduced. The idea of limiting the number of vehicles on the grounds is also a positive. We all desire to have some sort of normalcy returned to our social lives and the connection we all have listening to our favorite artist live, but is it worth possible exposure to a virus with no current cure?
